Federal EV Tax Credit

What Should Ford Buyers in Santa Clara Know About EV Tax Credits and Home Charger Incentives?

The federal Clean Vehicle Credit offers up to $7,500 in tax relief for qualifying electric vehicles—but that program is set to expire on September 30, 2025. Additionally, the tax credit for installing a home EV charger will end on June 30, 2026. If you're considering a Ford EV in Santa Clara, the window to claim these incentives is closing.

What Makes You Eligible for the $7,500 EV Tax Credit?

The credit is split into two components:

  • $3,750 based on where the EV's battery minerals are sourced
  • $3,750 based on where battery components are manufactured

Eligibility depends on the model, the assembly location, and your income. Not all EVs qualify for the full credit, and some don’t qualify at all.

What Are the Requirements for a Ford EV to Qualify?

To receive the credit, your vehicle must meet these criteria:

  • It must be new at the time of purchase
  • Include a battery with at least 7 kilowatt-hours
  • Weigh under 14,000 pounds
  • Be assembled in North America
  • Be made by a qualifying manufacturer

MSRP caps apply—$80,000 for SUVs and trucks, and $55,000 for other vehicles. Buyer income limits must also be met. Finally, the dealership must correctly file the sale with the IRS.

How Long Are These Incentives Available?

Without congressional renewal, the Clean Vehicle Credit ends on September 30, 2025. The charger installation credit expires June 30, 2026. There's no guarantee they’ll be extended. If you're considering an EV, now’s the time to start planning.
