Making sure your car tires are properly maintained is one of the most important things you can do to make sure your car is safe for your family. Two areas that need to be routinely checked are the tire pressure and tire tread, listed below are simple ways to make sure your tires are safe:
- Tire Pressure- If tires are not properly inflated they will wear unevenly and cause the car to take longer to stop, reduce fuel economy, and possible blow. Check your car owner’s manual to see the proper pressure for your tires. Once you know what pressure your tires should be it is easy to check as all you need is a tire pressure gauge which is inexpensive. Simply take off the cap from the tires valve stem and place the gauge on the stem and it will display the tire pressure.
- Tire Tread- If tires are worn and do not have proper tread they will handle poorly because they no longer properly grip the road. It is easy to check your tire tread as all you need is a penny. Take a penny and place it upside down in the tread of the tire, if you can no longer see President Lincolns head then your tread is good if not it is time to buy new tires.
