Ford and Partners Move Forward with ACCELERATE

Ford has a long-standing reputation as a trailblazing American automaker. Recognized domestically and internationally, Ford has consistently taken pride in delivering quality vehicles to drivers worldwide while serving as a major employer for the American workforce. Recently, during the “ACCELERATE the Essential Economy” event in Michigan, Ford executives outlined the pressing challenges in the U.S. market and detailed the company's strategies for navigating them.

What is “ACCELERATE the Essential Economy”?

“ACCELERATE the Essential Economy” functions as a collaborative summit where policymakers, business executives, educators, and skilled tradespeople gather to address economic challenges. The second iteration of this significant event occurred in September 2026 at Michigan Central Station. The venue itself holds as much meaning as the resulting action plans. Revitalized by the dedication of 3,000 skilled laborers, Michigan Central Station stands as a testament to the American workforce and now serves as a hub for cross-sector strategies to narrow the nation's skilled trades gap.

Ford stood alongside major founding and partner organizations—including Dycom, The Wallace Foundation, and The Home Depot—at this year's conference. Together, this coalition is backing a nationwide public education initiative set to debut in 2027, designed to draw young American talent toward the skilled trades. The initiative leverages data from an Ad Council study showing that while 38 percent of students would consider a trade career, only 11 percent intend to pursue one after graduation. The coalition aims to dismantle the primary barriers identified in the study: persistent stigmas and a lack of awareness.

Ford's Action Plan

To help young American workers explore skilled trades and secure better career pathways, Ford and its coalition have developed an extensive strategy. Initially, Ford Philanthropy will enhance mobility and transportation assistance across various municipalities, ensuring that commuting barriers do not hinder professional growth. Furthermore, Ford Pro is rolling out Ford Pro Advantage—a pioneering certified pre-owned program for Class 1-7 commercial vehicles across its 700+ Commercial Vehicle Centers—thereby easing commercial vehicle ownership for businesses. Finally, alongside the debut of the Michigan Launchpad for Industrial Innovation & Transformation (Michigan LIFT), Ford Philanthropy and JPMorganChase pledged $550,000 to Focus: HOPE, a Detroit nonprofit dedicated to job training and education.
