The C-MAX takes efficiency and performance to the max with a power-split hybrid drivetrain that has earned gold stars from many 2017 Ford C-MAX reviews. The system is composed of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and electric motor, and generates a best-in-class 188 horsepower. The hybrid's power is delivered to the front wheels by a continuously variable automatic transmission. If the C-Max's strong and smooth acceleration doesn't blow you away, the EPA-estimated 40 mpg combined--42 city and 37 highway--will surely knock your socks off.

The 2017 Ford C-MAX Energi in Santa Clara plug-in hybrid also offers a similar set-up, adding a more powerful 7.6-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that achieves a 19 mile all-electric range when fully charged.
