This trim now features an optional sport appearance package on this level, which adds leather-trimmed seating with suede inserts among other sporty flair. Impressive Performance Features

The Explorer's standard 3.5-liter V6 uses variable valve timing for optimized performance and delivers 290 horsepower and 255 lb.-ft. of torque. Two turbocharged options, a 2.3-liter inline-4 and a 3.5-liter V6 are optional. The inline-4 is rated at 280 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft., and the latter comes in at about 365 horsepower and 450 lb.-ft. of torque. Each engine is mated with a six-speed transmission with paddle shifters.

Intelligent four-wheel drive with terrain management and hill descent control is available across the lineup, along with a trailer tow package that adds an engine oil cooler, wiring harness and a hitch. 2017 Ford Explorer reviews are also impressed with the standard AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control and Curve Control that can detect and correct wheel slip, understeering, oversteering and roll motions.
