While many cars are labeled as "fully redesigned" in a model year, it's usually a far stretch. That's not the case with the 2020 Explorer, however, which features an all-new design from the ground up. The 2020 Ford Explorer dazzles with a number of new and notable exterior amenities such as LED lights and chrome accents. Inside, the three-row SUV debuts new technology and an interior with more space than ever. The Explorer comes standard with rear-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive is available. Two additional trims join the lineup this year too, including the sporty ST model and a hybrid edition. With variable seating configurations, the Explorer seats seven or eight occupants. The addition of more safety technology keeps you safe on the road, no matter where you go.
There are four trim levels of the 2020 Ford Explorer. Each builds on the previous one's list of standard and available amenities. The base trim, called the SLT, is distinctive from the inside out. Its interior features a Ford Connect infotainment system with a 4G hotspot, three 12V power charging outlets, assist grab handles in the first and second rows, and a backup camera with an integrated washer. There are also dome lights in all three rows. Cloth seats are standard.
The next trim is the Limited. It features three-zone climate control, including an auxiliary climate control in the back. It also has an air filtration system. A heated steering wheel and ambient interior lighting are standard, as is a forward sensing system that warns of objects in front of the car. The sound system is upgraded to a stereo unit by Bang & Olufsen. A voice-activated navigation system is standard, as are leather seats with accent stitching.
The ST gets custom floor mats and a heated sporty steering wheel. Perforated leather seats, a twin-panel moon roof, and power-folding captain's chairs are highlights of the Platinum. The 2020 Explorer gets unique exterior accents all around and LED lights.
There are several engines available in the 2020 model year. The base engine is a 2.3L four-cylinder turbo-charged engine with an EcoBoost mode to maximize fuel economy. Although it's the same engine that powered the previous Explorer, it gets an additional 20 HP for a 300 HP capacity. This engine has a torque production of 310 LB-FT. The Platinum gets a 3.0L V6 engine that generates 365 HP and 380 LB-FT of torque. The ST, which is the sportiest Explorer, has a powerful engine that produces 400 HP and 415 LB-FT of torque. All engines have a 10 speed automatic transmission.
Although the number of standard and available features differ, there are plenty of safety amenities on every Explorer trim level. Along with airbags, backup cameras, and sensors, you'll find driver-assist aids like lane change alert, blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and reverse braking assistance.
As you can see, there's a lot to enjoy in the 2020 Ford Explorer. But you'll have to try one out yourself to see all that it offers. Call or contact us online today to learn more about the Explorer and set up a test drive.
