What's New For the 2021 Ford Explorer?

The Ford Explorer has a few minor changes to some of the different trim levels part of the 2021 lineup. For example, the XLT trim level comes with heated seats and a heated steering wheel, as well as a cargo organizer. The Limited, Platinum, and ST trim levels come with eight directional power adjusting seats in the front. The XLT trim also includes a sport appearance package that features 20-inch Carbonized Gray-painted aluminum wheels.

Which Trims & Features Are Available in 2021?

Six different trim levels are available for the 2021 version of the Ford Explorer. The mid-level Limited trim level comes with a hybrid powertrain option. The other trim levels come with a turbocharged, four-cylinder engine that can tow 5,300 pounds. All-wheel drive can also be included. Limited, Limited Hybrid, ST, and Platinum all come with a B&O audio system with 12 speakers, impressive 20-inch wheels that master a variety of road terrains, power front seats, heated front seats, and leather upholstery on the interior. The third row folds back in the base trim level and upwards, and ST and Platinum come with adaptive cruise control as a convenience and safety feature.

2021 Ford Explorer Powertrain Options

The base engine is a 2.3-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that provides 300 horsepower. If you upgrade to the Platinum model, you get a 3.0-liter V6 turbocharged engine that delivers 365 horsepower. The Explorer ST comes with the same engine, but you can achieve 400 horsepower with some additional features and precision. The hybrid model is a 3.3-liter V6 engine with an electric motor combination that provides 318 horsepower.
