The Ford Edge has several changes for the new model year. There is a new transmission, added safety and tech features, and the front end with a slight upgrade. The Edge is a little quicker while ending up with a little better fuel economy.
The 3.5 liter V6 is gone and there is a redesigned grille in the front. The engine available for most models is a 2 liter size turbo four cylinder. The 6 speed transmission has been replaced with a new 8 speed that features a type of rotary shifter. There is also an automatic stop and start system which helps increase fuel efficiency. Other additions include an after collision braking which applies brake pressure to help avoid a secondary collision.
Another new added item is an evasive steering system. It uses a camera and radar which detects slower vehicles and obstacles. The Edge will then help steer around things if a collision is detected. There is also an adaptive type cruise control, which slows and speeds up the vehicle to match the traffic flow.
There are 4 trim packages available in 7 different configurations. The SE is the base trim model. It still features many safety and high tech items that are optional on other base vehicles. There are four different 12 volt power supplies inside.
Also included is a battery saver and a handle with liftgate assistance. Another standard feature is a smart charging port that works with USB plugs. There is also a personal safety type of system which has sensors inside in various places. It helps by determining the best course of action during an accident.
The SEL is a notch above the SE model. It adds powered from seats, automatic dimming mirror, and a steering wheel that is wrapped in leather with controls built into it. Another feature is Sirius radio.
If you move up to the Titanium trim package, your added features are another smart type of USB plug, an upgraded infotainment center, and heated front seating. There is also an advanced voice system for better recognition. Finally, The ST features the sport package. This is the only model that gets the EcoBoost six cylinder engine. It is a V6 2.7 liter that is a lot quicker.
The base four cylinder engine puts out 250 horsepower with over 270 pounds of torque. The ST gets the larger engine giving out 335 HP and 380 LB-Foot of torque. Fuel mileage is good with the four cylinder giving up an estimated 22 city with 29 highway. The V6 also performs well getting an EPA estimated 19 in the city and 26 highway.
